Lewis County cuts the ribbon for brand-new Highway Garage

LOWVILLE- A new Highway Garage for Lewis County was officially unveiled during a special ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday.

Located directly across from the original highway garage, which was initially erected in 1909, the new highway garage is included amidst $50-million in bonded funding to support projects to upgrade several facilities throughout the county.

"The pride that they take in their work and the work ethic that they bring really is deserving really is deserving of a facility and the tools to do the job properly," said County Manager Ryan Piche during Tuesday's ceremony. 

"This really kind of completes the entire vision. When I got here, what I saw is that we had the right people, but we needed the right equipment and the right facilities to be able to be an efficient highway department," said Highway Superintendent Timothy Hunt.

Piche told us the former garage will eventually transform into the county's Outdoor Services building, with intents to house Forestry & Parks and Soil & Water.

Department of Social Services (Human Services Building) was the first project to be completed in this bonded investment.
