Lewis County man accused of stealing woman's vehicle and threatening her life with hammer

CROGHAN- A local man is accused of stealing a woman's vehicle and then threatening her life in Lewis County, authorities say.

Shaun K. Elliott, 38, of Croghan, NY was arrested on Thursday by the Sheriff's Office. Elliott is formally charged with felony counts of robbery in the first-degree, menacing in the first-degree and criminally possessing a controlled substance in the fifth-degree, along with misdemeanor counts of criminal trespass in the third-degree and driving while ability impaired by drugs. 

These charges stem from a reported domestic incident on Thursday. According to Sheriff's Investigators, it's alleged that Elliott forcefully took a vehicle belonging to another woman in the town of Croghan and then threatened her with a hammer.

Deputies located Elliott after a 9-1-1 call, where a witness observed him enter a building, unlawfully.

During processing, police said that Elliott failed field sobriety tests.

He was arraigned and remanded to the Lewis County Jail, without bail. 

As of this report, the investigation remains ongoing and more charges are expected.
