
CASTORLAND- A maple sugar shanty went up in flames this week in Lewis County.
It happened shortly after 8:00 a.m. Wednesday at 10535 State Route 812 in Castorland, NY. The property is owned by Christopher Moser, according to the Office of Emergency Management.
Croghan was the primary fire department on scene, with mutual aid received thanks to 3-G, Beaver Falls and Harrisville.
After working on his maple syrup operation the previous evening, Moser found his shanty to be on fire the next morning.
The structure was fully involved by the time firefighters could arrive.
The building and its contents ended up being a total loss, but there were no injuries reported.
As of press time, the cause of this fire was ruled not to be suspicious and there is no active investigation.
Members from Search & Rescue and Cause & Origin both assisted.
