Lewis County preparing for SNAP and healthcare benefit adjustments from Big Beautiful Bill Act as leaders create framework for 2026 budget

LOWVILLE- Leaders in Lewis County are preparing the framework for what will be the 2026 budget and officials are making note that because of the Big Beautiful Bill Act, there will need to be some adjustments made to certain SNAP benefits and health insurance plans, according to local officials.

To clarify, the County Manager, Timothy Hunt, expresses that there is no need for the public to panic, but local officials are preparing for some changes to be made to certain medicaid and SNAP benefits.

The exact nature of these adjustments, per our discussion with Mr. Hunt, have still yet to be fully revealed and New York State leaders will be in the process of sharing that information with local leaders as it develops.
