Lewis County receives over $572,000 in grant funding for installation of electric vehicle charging stations
LEWIS COUNTY- Numerous electric vehicle charging stations are lined up for installation throughout Lewis County, thanks to grant funding from New York’s Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Grant Program.
According to a news release from the Governor’s Office, the North Country region is receiving nearly $1.4 million of this grant funding, almost $573,000 of which has been allocated to projects in Lewis County.
“My Administration is committed to advancing the transition to a cleaner and healthier future for our environment benefitting all New Yorkers,” Governor Hochul said.
“Our continued investments in electric vehicle infrastructure encourages more drivers to switch to electric, reducing pollution and emissions across the State and improving the health and well-being of our residents and communities.”
Chargers will be installed at the following locations:
- Town of Diana's Municipal Park (Main Street).
- Lowville Veteran's Memorial Park.
- Lowville Lions Park.
- Lowville Municipal Building.
- Lewis County Department of Social Services.
- Jefferson Community College – Lewis County Education Center.
- Village of Constableville Community Park and Skating Rink.
According to Lewis County Government officials, these installations will help:
- Strengthen the local transportation network.
- Encourage the use of electric and hybrid vehicles.
- Create more accessibility for residents and visitors to explore all that Lewis County has to offer.
The Municipal Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Infrastructure Grant program administered by the State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) prioritizes clean transportation investments in communities most affected by pollution and climate change.
The program includes a variable local match requirement based on the municipality’s median household income (MHI) and whether the ZEV infrastructure is located in a disadvantaged community, based on the disadvantaged communities criteria developed by the State’s Climate Justice Working Group.
Approximately $885,000 of the awards were granted to municipalities located in disadvantaged communities in New York State, according to the Governor's office.
