WEBB- A local man is accused of cashing payment checks for contract work, but not using those funds to acquire building materials, authorities say.

David N. Allen, 46, of Boonville, NY was officially charged by Town of Webb Police on July 7 with felony grand larceny in the third-degree.

Chief of Police Ron Johnston says the arrest stems from a month-long investigation, where police looked into complaints of unaccounted funding regarding a residential contracting agreement.

Police said Allen was hired in June of 2021 to complete several renovation projects for a homeowner. He reportedly received numerous payment checks throughout the next several months, which were meant for purchasing project materials.

The project cost was over $25,000, police clarified.

It’s confirmed that Allen did cash these checks, but allegedly did not purchase materials agreed upon for the project.

It’s also alleged that he did not reimburse the homeowner.

An arrest warrant was filed earlier this month on July 5. Allen soon turned himself in on July 7.

Following arraignment via Herkimer County CAP Court, Allen was released on his own recognizance and is due to appear at a later date.
