LOWVILLE- Lowville Academy has endured flooding damage now for the second time this summer, specifically regarding the Elementary portion of the complex.

With that said, a letter addressed to district families on Wednesday from Superintendent of Schools, Rebecca Dunckel, suggests that both the Kindergarten and First Grade rooms are not suitable for students and staff members.

Furthermore, Superintendent Dunckel made clear that there is no guarantee that those class rooms will be ready in-time for the first day of school, which is less than two-weeks away as of this publication.

“We understand the challenges this situation presents, and we are working diligently to arrange alternate locations for instruction,” the Superintendent said in the letter.

When torrential rains unleashed in Lowville this past Monday, the playgrounds and turf field were flooded out as well and currently cannot be used as of this report.

It’s not clear yet when the playgrounds and turf field will be repaired and ready for use, Superintendent Dunckel clarified.

Families and parents/guardians who have children aimed to begin Kindergarten and First Grade at Lowville Academy will be contacted soon with further instructions and information.
