Lowville FD Ridge Road Fire December 2025

LOWVILLE- A home undergoing some re-modeling work was lost in a blaze early Monday.

Lowville Fire Department was called out shortly after 5:00 a.m. to 7849 Ridge Road. Castorland and New Bremen provided mutual aid.

Firefighters battled a fully involved blaze that took hours to finally conquer. But despite their best efforts, remains of the structure had to be torn down due to stability and safety issues.

Emergency responders endured frigid cold temperatures and extreme winds.

The home is a total loss, according to Fire Chief Joe Austin. No injuries were reported, as the owners, Zachary and Larissa Stracener, were not currently residing there amidst the remodeling (fire fighters responded to a previous fire at the same address in November).

However, some tools and other equipment, which belonged to the contractors working on the structure, were lost.

At press time, Lowville Fire Department said the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation, however; there are no suspicious signs as to what sparked the fire.

The building was insured.

Members from the State Police, Search & Rescue, National Grid, Town of Lowville Highway Department, Lewis County Highway Department and Lowville Fire Auxiliary all assisted.
