WEBB- Authorities say a local man, who tried to evade police, is faced with numerous charges in the wake of an incident late Wednesday night in the Western Adirondacks.
John W. Hoffert, 42, of Old Forge, NY was arrested shortly after 2:30 a.m. Thursday by the Town of Webb Police. He is formally charged with felony criminal mischief, along with two counts of harassment in the second-degree; criminal trespass; resisting arrest and criminally possessing a weapon in the third-degree (previous conviction).
Patrols were called to an address at 109 Fletcher Road shortly after 11:00 p.m. upon receiving complaints of a suspect trying to gain access.
According to Chief of Police Ron Johnston, Hoffert, who was wanted on a felony probation warrant out of Lewis County, allegedly broke a window and kicked a door in at the address.
It’s reported his wife was inside, with acquaintances.
Although Hoffert managed to flee just before police arrival, officers said they witnessed him running into the woods nearby.
Police established a perimeter and began searching a marsh between Fletcher and South Shore Road. With the help of K-9 Winnie via the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, police managed to find Hoffert and take him into custody without further incident.
He was turned over to Lewis County on the warrant.
Hoffert will address his charges in Webb Town Court at a later date.
