BOONVILLE- A medical helicopter was called Thursday evening in the wake of a single car accident in Northern Oneida County, authorities say.

It happened shortly before 6:30 p.m. on the Millers Woods Road, town of Boonville.

According to investigation via the Sheriff’s Office, James Carr, 38, of Boonville, NY was driving south in a 2005 Jeep Wrangler when a deer entered the roadway.

Police say that Carr swerved to avoid hitting the deer, but subsequently went off the western shoulder and struck a tree. Deputies mentioned that the roads were wet and excessive speed was another factor.

A passenger, identified as Erica Clifford, 36, of Cold Brook, NY was initially pinned in the vehicle and had to be rescued by members of Boonville Fire Department.

Once freed from the wreckage, Clifford was flown to SUNY Upstate Medical Center with what emergency officials said was a compound fracture to her right leg, along with several other lacerations and complaints of pain to the right hip, knee, and heel.

Meanwhile, Carr was evaluated on-scene by local EMS for head and leg pain before being transported to WYNN Hospital for additional treatment.

At press time, police determined that Carr was operating on a revoked driver's license when the accident occurred.

Carr was issued three citations related to the incident, which are returnable to the Town of Boonville Court at a later date.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office was assisted on the scene by Boonville Fire Company, Boonville Ambulance, Mercy Flight, and Grower's Collision & Towing of Boonville.
