Mobile home fire in Port Leyden under investigation

PORT LEYDEN- Local authorities are investigating a mobile home that was extensively damaged in a blaze early Sunday, near Port Leyden, NY.

Alarms sounded shortly before 4:00 a.m. after 9-1-1 dispatchers received calls for help at 3404 River Road.

According to Lewis County Office of Emergency Management, the caller reported hot pipes and smoke around the furnace unit.

Arriving firefighters found flames in the ceiling above the unit. Although the property wasn’t listed as a total loss by authorities, it is reported that the structure sustained extensive smoke and water damage.

In addition, there were three rooms that were destroyed.

The owner is Christine Mooney and officials say the Red Cross has been contacted to assist.

Port Leyden was the primary fire department on scene. Lyons Falls was called for mutual aid.

The cause remains under investigation.
