A lawsuit accuses the Trump Administration of withholding “billions of dollars in funding” for electric vehicle chargers.

New York State is among 17 total states participating in this lawsuit, according to the latest updates from the Associated Press.

It was reported back in February that the Trump Administration gave the order for states to cease spending any money on any electric vehicle charging infrastructure that was allocated under President Joe Biden in 2021 via the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

The program was arranged to dish out $5 billion to states over a half-decade and it is estimated that $3.3 billion of that had already been made available.

Reports suggest that New York State has already been awarded $175 million from the program, while state officials are up in arms because over $120 million of that funding is apparently being held up.

In a letter published back in February, President Trump blasted the federal funding allocated for electric vehicle infrastructure, going on to claim it was an “incredible waste of taxpayer dollars.”

In a nutshell, the lawsuit argues that Congress holds the authority to halt such funding, not the Presidential Administration.

It’s reported that some states have active projects that have already been reimbursed by the federal government.

Only days ago, a development came to light involving various electric vehicle charging stations that are supposed to be installed throughout Lewis County, thanks to funding from New York’s Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Grant Program.
