ALBANY, NY- October is National Manufacturing Month and Governor Kathy Hochul says New York has led the nation in growth since 2021 with over 13,000 new jobs.

“After decades of decline across the manufacturing industry, my administration is turning the sector around with historic actions to bring leading businesses to our state, encourage green and sustainable business practices, and prepare the workforce for the manufacturing jobs of tomorrow,” she said.

“New York's manufacturing renaissance is a testament to the unwavering dedication and strategic vision of Governor Hochul," said New York State Department of Labor Commissioner Roberta Reardon.

According to the Governor’s Office, roughly 420,000 New Yorkers work in manufacturing and the sector contributed more than $83 billion to New York’s gross domestic product in 2022.

Furthermore, the state has one of the largest semiconductor manufacturing industries in the nation with more than 10,300 jobs, $2 billion in exports, and 72 semiconductor facilities across the state.

New York is also home to a vibrant agribusiness sector, ranking first in the nation for yogurt production and among the top states in the country for its number of cideries, breweries, distilleries, and wineries.

Last fall, Governor Hochul revealed plans to build a semiconductor manufacturing campus in Central New York, generating $100 billion in investment over the next 20 years and creating 50,000 new jobs – making it the largest manufacturing project in New York State history.
