ALBANY, NY- New York is on the verge of becoming the next state to legalize medically assisted suicide.

Without New York, there are 10 other states and Washington, D.C. that have legalized this for families and individuals.

The topic has been brought up in Albany for the last several years, but never has gained very much traction, until this legislative session.

In the Assembly Chamber, sources say Medical Aid in Dying Act needed 76 yes votes to pass and it got 81. 67 lawmakers voted no.

With only a month left in the legislative session and still no budget, the bill will head to the Senate next.

If passed there, it will head to the desk of Governor Kathy Hochul for signature.
