New York State Police launches fall Speed Week crackdown initiative

The New York State Police is starting off this new autumn season with another Speed Week to crack down on aggressive drivers.

The campaign begins Tuesday, September 22, 2026 and lasts through this Sunday, September 27. According to State Police figures, speeding is a major contributing factor in nearly one-third of all fatal crashes across New York.

Data cited by the State Police suggests there were 315 fatal crashes statewide in 2024 that were caused by excessive speed, with 12,232 people who were also injured as a result.

During this enforcement period, Troopers will be on the lookout for drivers who are heavy on the gas pedal.

Police will also be looking for other routine violations, including but not limited to distracted drivers and drivers who fail to move over.
