North Country area level three sex offender arrested, charged for not reporting Facebook account to state registry

CROGHAN- A North Country area resident is accused of violating New York’s Sex Offender Registry for allegedly having an unregistered social media account.

Last Friday, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged Shawn A. Kloster, 39, of Carthage, NY with one felony count of failing to report internet information to the registry.

Investigators received a tip back on September 8 that Kloster, a level three sex offender, had an unregistered Facebook account.

It is alleged that Kloster was using a Facebook account under an alias that was not reported to the registry database.

At press time, police said that Kloster was arraigned and held on $15,000 cash bail.
