North Country resident identified in fatal single vehicle wreck near Fort Drum

JEFFERSON COUNTY- A North Country resident died over the weekend in a single vehicle crash near Fort Drum.

It happened shortly before 11:00 a.m. Saturday on State Route 26, near the overpass by the 10th Mountain Division Museum.

Officials from Fort Drum and their emergency personnel told reporters from WWNY-TV that they found Patrick A. Bevens Jr., 54, of Carthage, NY trapped in the vehicle.

Emergency responders utilized the jaws of life to free him from the wreckage.

Lifesaving efforts were initiated, but in a tragic update, authorities said that Bevens Jr. was pronounced deceased at Carthage Area Hospital.

New York State Police assisted at the scene and as of this update, there are no details to suggest exactly how the accident occurred.
