
LEWIS COUNTY-FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 P.M. EDT THIS AFTERNOON (THURSDAY, AUGUST 17, 2023) FOR THE BEAVER RIVER.
* WHAT...Flooding caused by Wednesday`s excessive rainfall continues along the Beaver River.
* WHERE...A portion of central New York, including the following county: Lewis.
* WHEN...Until 5:00 P.M. EDT Thursday.
* IMPACTS...Flooding along the Beaver River is occurring.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS:
- At 4:00 A.M. EDT, the gauge at Croghan on the Beaver River was at 6.1 feet. The Beaver River has crested just past midnight, but a slow drop to around 5 feet is not expected until later in the day today. This will result in continued flooding in low-lying areas along the river.
- Levels on Beaver River are expected to slowly drop through the day today.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...Croghan, Castorland, Kirschnerville, Belfort, Beaver Falls and Soft Maple Reservoir.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or creeks.
