NEW BREMEN- A Lewis County fraud case has resulted in the arrest of a local resident, authorities say.

Jay M. Augustyn, 33, of Croghan, NY was arrested Monday afternoon by the New York State Police (Lowville). Augustyn is officially charged with one felony count of identity theft in the first-degree (causing a loss).

According to Troopers, the arrest stems from an identity theft complaint last September in the town of New Bremen.

At press time, Augustyn’s arrest status was listed as bail/bond, with no amount specified.
