NYSP: Name not released for 18-year-old suspect charged with felonies in a Poland gang assault case

POLAND- An 18-year-old local resident is faced with felony and misdemeanor charges in the wake of an alleged assault in Herkimer County, authorities say.

New York State Police (Herkimer) did not provide a name or gender for the suspect (juvenile/youthful offender status), who is from Poland, NY. The suspect was formally charged Sunday afternoon with one felony count each of gang assault in the second-degree (causing serious physical injury) and assault in the second-degree (intent to cause physical injury w/a weapon and/or instrument), along with one misdemeanor count of criminally possessing a weapon in the fourth-degree.

According to Troopers, these charges stem from a reported assault Saturday night in the village of Poland, NY.

At press time, police said that an investigation was pending. Meanwhile, the 18-year-old suspect was released on their own recognizance.
