On Friday, October 18, 2024, New York State DEC Big Game Unit Research Scientist and Spokesperson, Dave Kramer, joined North Country News and discussed the DEC's recent transition to paper licenses and tags.

Be sure to listen to our latest on-air segment with Dave Kramer for his latest remarks:

The move seems to have stirred up quite a bit of chatter between hunting enthusiasts, though the DEC claims the move was intended to help modernize the license purchasing process by allowing easier, quicker access to licenses and tags and offering at-home license and tag printing options for the increasing number of hunters, trappers, and anglers who purchase their licenses online.

Furthermore, when hunters and anglers are afield, proof of valid license can be shown electronically through the HuntFishNY mobile app, which serves as a fast and easy way for hunters to report their game harvests.

Prior to the start of the 2024 season, licenses were issued on a synthetic paper that so many outdoor enthusiasts were accustomed to.
