LOWVILLE- President Biden's Administration has approved New York Governor Kathy Hochul's request for a Major Disaster Declaration to provide federal assistance to communities impacted by severe weather stemming from the remnants of Hurricane Beryl on July 10 and 11.
As of Friday, Lewis County Highway Superintendent Timothy Hunt told us he is not aware of any further developments from that announcement.
Governor Hochul's Office said that she will be working directly with FEMA in the coming weeks to ensure that local government municipalities receive the critical funding they need to begin the recovery and rebuilding process.
The counties eligible for funding via this Major Disaster Declaration include Cortland, Essex, Hamilton, Lewis, and St. Lawrence.
On Monday, September 9, 2024, Mr. Hunt, the soon to be County Manger, joined North Country News and continued focusing on local infrastructure.
