Oneida County Sheriff’s Lieutenant graduates 299th FBI National Academy

A Sheriff’s Lieutenant from Oneida County was one of 265 law enforcement executives to graduate the 299th session of the FBI National Academy this month in Quantico, VA.

Lieutenant Michael Gibbons began his career with the Sheriff’s Office in 2016 as a Deputy before being promoted to investigator in 2022.

The following year, Gibbons received his next promotion to Sergeant and finally a Lieutenant in 2024.

The 299th National Academy for the FBI consisted of men and women from 44 different states, including the District of Columbia.

According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, Lieutenant Gibbons has received several awards and commendations, along with numerous law enforcement training certifications.

A total of 57,461 graduates have completed the FBI National Academy since it began in 1935.

The National Academy is held at the FBI Training Academy in Quantico, the same facility where the FBI trains its new special agents and intelligence analysts.

The class also included 29 international members of law enforcement agencies from 28 countries, five military organizations, and four federal civilian organizations.

Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy offers 10 weeks of advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training.

Participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies to attend.
