Over 8,700 tickets were issued over the Labor Day Weekend law enforcement crackdown, according to the New York State Police.

Last-year’s crackdown yielded nearly 10,000 tickets and 139 personal injury crashes, including three fatalities.

For our local Troop D Region, 20 people were arrested for DWI; 238 were ticketed for speeding; 12 were cited for distracted driving; 50 were caught without a seatbelt and 9 were ticketed for failing to move over.

154 people statewide were arrested for drunken driving. Over 3,400 speeding tickets were issued this time around.

During the campaign, which was funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, the New York State Police increased patrols and conducted sobriety checkpoints to deter, identify, and arrest impaired drivers.

In addition to the DWI checkpoints and patrols, Troopers were also watching for distracted drivers, vehicle occupants who were not properly buckled up, and drivers who were violating the Move Over Law.
