Overheating chimney named cause of Wednesday night house fire near Lowville

LOWVILLE- No injuries were reported in a Wednesday night fire near Lowville, NY.

At around 6:30 p.m., Lowville Fire Department was the primary responder to 6523 River Road. The property is owned by Andrew and Stacy Godlewski, according to Lowville Fire Chief, Joe Austin.

Glenfield, Martinsburg and New Bremen Fire Departments responded for mutual aid. Investigation suggests the blaze sparked because of a chimney malfunction.

No injuries were reported and there was minor structural damage observed near the chimney, while minor smoke and water damage was reported throughout.

With that said, the Red Cross was called in to assist with temporary housing.

Members from Lewis County Sheriff’s Office and Search & Rescue all assisted.
