Poland resident charged with felony and misdemeanor criminal contempt in Newport, Troopers say

NEWPORT- A local resident in Herkimer County is faced with both a felony and misdemeanor charge in the wake of two separate domestic incidents last month.

On Wednesday morning, the New York State Police (Herkimer) arrested and charged Brandi Smaldon, 31, of Poland, NY with one felony count of criminal contempt in the first-degree.

In a separate case, Smaldon was also charged with a misdemeanor of criminal contempt in the second-degree.

Troopers say the felony charge stems from a complaint filed in the town of Newport on August 12, while the misdemeanor charge stems from a complaint filed in the town of Newport on August 13.

At press time, police said that Smaldon was released in both cases.

There were no further details provided.
