UTICA- A local man is accused of trying to steal numerous items from an Oneida County retail store, according to authorities.

Chad Croniser, 35, of West Leyden, NY was arrested Saturday by Utica City Police Department. He is officially charged with grand larceny in the fourth-degree.

It was shortly after 6:00 p.m. Saturday when police were called to the North Utica Walmart over a shoplifting complaint.

Store officials informed police that a suspect, who was reportedly identified as Croniser, was allegedly hiding merchandise in his cart and had sneaked past the checkouts before exiting.

After receiving a description, officers caught Croniser in the parking lot with a shopping cart full of stolen items. He was taken to Utica Police Department for processing.

After examining everything in the shopping cart, investigators determined Croniser managed to shoplift nearly $1,800 worth of goods.
