ROME- A suspect from the area is faced with felony charges following a reported domestic incident over the weekend.
It was sometime shortly before 6:00 p.m. Sunday when Rome City Police officers responded to a domestic incident at 306 ½ West Court Street. Initial reports suggested the suspect apparently was armed with a pair of machetes.
As soon as officers arrived, they attempted to engage with the suspect, identified as Manuel D. Frias, 32, of Rome, NY.
However, it is alleged that Frias threw one of his machetes at responding officers before taking off back inside of the address, where he attempted to barricade himself inside.
Negotiators were called in, but their attempts to speak with Frias were unsuccessful. Eventually, special responders moved to take Frias into custody without any further incident.
Police say Frias is charged with one felony count each of menacing a police officer, attempted assault in the second-degree and criminally possessing a weapon in the third-degree.
Following processing, police said that Frias was taken to the Oneida County Jail, where he was being held at press time pending an arraignment.
