WOODGATE- A portable heater has been blamed for sparking a Saturday night structure fire.
Woodgate Fire Department and surrounding emergency services were toned out at around 5:00 p.m. to 1208 Bear Creek Road, town of Forestport.
The first responders on-scene confirmed a working fire in a crawl space underneath the residence, while smoke and flames were visible from the exterior.
According to Woodgate Fire Department, there were three family members who just so happened to be in the area when the fire broke out. All three played a crucial role in suppressing the fire right away.
When all was said and done, investigation determined a portable “Reddy Heater” was being used to help thaw out frozen waterlines underneath the home. Unfortunately, there were combustibles nearby and that’s how the fire started.
However, thanks to a swift response and dedicated teamwork, the flames were doused before they spread any further. With that said, the homeowner has been displaced amidst some electrical concerns within the structure.
Forestport, Otter Lake and Stittville were all contacted for mutual aid.
No injuries were reported.
