Adirondack Railroad Washout August 2023

OLD FORGE- Heavy rains last week have washed out sections of track along the Adirondack Railroad in the Western Adirondacks, according to officials.

On Friday afternoon, the railroad announced the suspension of all trains between Old Forge and Tupper Lake through at-least Sunday.

We have reached out to railroad officials for another update and so far, authorities have said to keep checking back in for the latest developments.

“We are contacting passengers who have purchased tickets on the trains that have been cancelled, offering a choice of refunds or ride credits for trains usable within one year,” said Frank Kobliski, President & CEO of the Railroad.

"Our rail bike service in Old Forge and Tupper Lake is not affected by the damage and we are also able to operate our popular Beer & Wine trains that do not travel over the affected parts of the corridor.”

All August Beer and Wine Trains will continue operating as scheduled, as well as all railbike tours.

The railroad said repair efforts have been underway, with a goal of resuming rail service to Old Forge as early as Thursday, August 17.

Washouts are reported both north and south of Old Forge, NY, the railroad said.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding of our customers and thank the many people, including the NYS DoT, who are collaborating with us to restore service as quickly as possible,” Kobliski added.
