The New York State Police and local law enforcement agencies are teaming up statewide to crack down on drivers with a heavy foot during their annual ‘Speed Week’ campaign.

The special blitz began on Monday and runs through this Sunday, June 15. In addition to speeding, law enforcement will be on the lookout for drivers who fail to move over.

According to the Institute for Traffic Safety Management and Research (ITSMR) at the University at Albany, in 2023, 307 fatal crashes were reported, and 11,631 personal injury crashes occurred in New York State that were speed related.

State Police will utilize their undercover patrol cruisers, which blend in with day-to-day traffic, but can be clearly identified as a police cruiser when the emergency lights are activated.

During last-year’s Speed Week campaign, State Troopers issued 22,476 total traffic tickets, including 11,175 for speeding and 592 for violations of the Move Over law.
