LOWVILLE- Legislators in Lewis County voted last-week to add just over three more miles to its ATV trail system.
The vote green lighted an additional 3.2-miles in the town of Greig and another 678-feet in the town of Martinsburg.
The trail system has slowly been opening up for the season since about a month ago.
Lewis County boasts hundreds of miles of both ATV trails and seasonal roads that expand across Tug Hill and the Black River Valley.
Officials say crews will be working to finalize posting the signage for these newly added stretches of trail/road.
Just recently, the Black River Valley ATV Club in Brantingham, NY announced the use of grant funding to help improve their off-road signage.
The topic of ATV riding across the Tug Hill region has surfaced frequently, including the renowned SNIRT Run, which was cancelled this year over apparent insurance discrepancies.
County officials have stated that it is their goal to always support recreational tourism opportunities, but there are rules that apply to these riding events, which typically attract hundreds and thousands of ATV riders to the area.
