BOONVILLE- Authorities in Northern Oneida County are investigating what’s known as a “swatting” incident that occurred Tuesday afternoon.
It was shortly before 3:30 p.m. when Boonville Police, New York State Police, the Sheriff’s Office and the New York State DEC all responded to a reported shooting and/or homicide taking place in the village.
However, investigation determined that no such thing took place. Boonville Police Officer in Charge Fred Robenski says the call was a false report, otherwise known as swatting, which involves the intent of rushing a swarm of police to a certain area without any actual emergency occurring.
At press time, Officer Robenski said the call originated with the Boonville, IN Police Department and was transferred to Oneida County 9-1-1.
The intended victim for this swatting incident was in the immediate area and was cooperative with police.
There was no danger to the public during this false report.
The investigation remains ongoing.
