SCAM: New York Board of Elections warns of staff impostors going door-to-door

Published on September 01, 2023

Scam Alert

The New York State Board of Elections is warning residents statewide to beware of staff impostors going door-to-door.

As if telephone or online scams aren't enough to deal with, this latest hoax involves real people posing as county board of elections staff.

Officials say there have been reports piling up all over the state, where these impostors will go door-to-door and confront voters right at their home, accusing them of committing a crime because they allegedly appear in the state voter database more than once.

If this has happened to you or happens to you in the future, officials strongly encourage to call your county board of elections office.

Officials say to provide as much detail as possible regarding any incidents. Any complaints will be forwarded to local law enforcement, in addition to the New York State Board of Elections.
