JEFFERSON & LEWIS COUNTIES- It seems like quite a few folks have been chattering about a low flying, yellow colored plane that has been buzzing over the Tug Hill region lately.
According to sources from the U.S. Geological Survey, who spoke with WWNY-TV, the plane is flying to help map out a project for minerals.
“We’re using the aircraft that you guys have seen to essentially measure the magnetic characteristics of the rocks that are at or just below the ground and so ultimately what you’re going to see is a map of the region north and east of Watertown that really shows magnetic anomalies that we can use to better map the bedrock in that region,” Jamey Jones, of the USGS, told reporters.
Once the mapping is complete, officials with the U.S. Geological Survey say it will be up to the state on what happens next with the information.
