BEAVER RIVER- An ice-heave/covered stump was a primary factor in Sunday’s serious injury snowmobile accident in the Western Adirondacks, emergency officials say.
It happened shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Stillwater Reservoir, not too far from Beaver River Station, town of Webb.
The accident was ultimately investigated via New York State Forest Rangers, but an update from Town of Webb Police Department suggests Walter F. Thompson (no age provided), of Belford, NJ, was traveling on the reservoir and struck an ice-heave, which ejected him from the sled.
Thompson reportedly suffered a facial injury, a right arm laceration and also mentioned neck/back pain, Chief of Police Ron Johnston said.
Forest Rangers and Webb Police worked with Big Moose Fire Department by extracting and transporting Thompson in an EMS toboggan to the boat launch, where they met an Old Forge Ambulance.
Thompson was taken to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Utica, NY.
No additional details were available.
