JEFFERSON COUNTY- Emergency responders were on the scene of what turned out to be a fatal snowmobile accident New Year’s Day on Tug Hill.
It happened shortly before 1:00 p.m. near the Waite Road, town of Worth.
State Police headed the investigation and officials have determined that there were two male snowmobilers traveling on Junction 306. One of them stopped along the trail and dismounted from their sled, while the second snowmobiler approached over the hill and struck them before they could stop in time.
Though State Police did not mention any further specifics around the nature of this accident, a separate report from Barnes Corners Sno-Pals suggests the snowmobiler got off from his sled to flag down other members in his riding group after missing a turn.
As of this publication Friday morning, the victim’s name was yet to be officially released. They were rushed to Samaritan Medical Center, where they were pronounced deceased.
The way things stand for now, this incident appears to be completely accidental in nature, as an evaluation for the other snowmobiler showed no signs of impairment.
State Police were assisted at the scene by State Forest Rangers, South Jefferson Rescue Squad, Town of Lorraine First Responders, the Barnes Corners Snow-Pals Snowmobile Club, and S and R Automotive.
