U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has given a clear warning to sophisticated criminal networks transporting migrants for profit.
While speaking in Tampa, FL last-week, AG Bondi said “Let me be clear: If you smuggle human beings, you will be found, you will be prosecuted and you will be brought to justice.”
According to the Associated Press, the U.S. Justice Department is ramping up their efforts by expanding Joint Task Force Alpha, which was formed in 2021 to investigate and prosecute human smuggling groups.
Though the Southern border with Mexico is often times the point of focus, U.S. officials say they are now going to focus heavily on the Northern border.
North Country Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY-21) has been sounding the alarm on this issue. Last October, she claimed border crossings in the Swanton Sector, which includes her district, had “skyrocketed” under the Biden administration and that crossings in 2024 had surpassed the previous 17-year total.
