Over 10,000 tickets were issued this year during the annual Fourth of July holiday law enforcement crackdown campaign in New York State.
According to the latest from the State Police, this actually represents a slight decrease from the nearly 13,000 tickets that were issued last-year.
Overall, 210 suspects were arrested of intoxicated and/or impaired driving across New York during the enforcement period, which began last Thursday and ended on Sunday.
There were over 700 accidents, with five of them involving fatalities. Locally in our Troop D Region, Troopers and law enforcement arrested 20 suspects for drunken driving; handed out 287 speeding tickets; 34 distracted driving tickets; 113 seatbelt violations and 16 move over violations.
When you include several other violations that were not specified by State Police, it all adds up to 1,034 tickets this year for the Troop D Region.
Statewide, over 3,500 drivers were ticketed for speeding.
