Published on April 23, 2025

U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik is calling for a federal investigation into an Upstate New York school. Stefanik accused the Saratoga Springs City School District Board of Education of violating President Donald Trump’s executive order banning trans athletes from competing in girls’ sports. The school board passed a resolution last month “Affirming Our Support for Every Student,” confirming transgender students have the “right to use facilities and partake in activities and sports consistent with their gender identity’ The New York Post reported that Stefanik sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon on Monday urging her to investigating the school. The Republican congresswoman, whose includes part of Saratoga County, also cited Title IX, saying it prohibits sex-based discrimination in schools and programs that receive federal funding. According to the Post, the Saratoga Springs City School District could lose some $3 million in federal funding. Board members told Spectrum News the amount represents about 2% of the district’s budget.
