MARCY- A local resident from Oneida County faced with a felony DWI charge and several other accusations allegedly had three children in the vehicle with them.
During the early hours on Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of Evans Oduro-Firikyi, 40, of Rome, NY for three felony counts each of aggravated DWI (Leandra’s Law); three misdemeanor counts each of endangering the welfare of a child; one misdemeanor count each of aggravated DWI (.18% BAC or greater), DWI, common law DWI, resisting arrest and several other unspecified traffic violations.
It was shortly before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday when 9-1-1 dispatch received reports of an erratic vehicle on State Route 49, town of Marcy.
A BOLO (be on the lookout) was issued, and it just so happened to be that road patrol deputies, who were also in the area on the scene of a disabled vehicle, witnessed the driver pass by.
At first, police said that Oduro-Firikyi initially failed to pull over, but a traffic was eventually executed.
Police suspected and soon confirmed that Oduro Firikyi was intoxicated while having three children passengers, including an infant.
Their ages specifically ranged from less than one to nine-years-old. Child protective services were contacted on behalf of the children in the vehicle, and the children were turned over to a sober relative.
It is reported that Oduro-Firikyi registered a .22% BAC.
At press time, police said that Oduro-Firikyi was held, pending an arraignment.
