OHIO- A group of hikers were rescued from the wilderness after becoming lost over the weekend in the Western Adirondacks.
The incident occurred Saturday evening, August 31 at the Limekiln Lake Campground, town of Ohio, Hamilton County.
According to the New York State DEC and their weekly Forest Ranger Highlights, two adults and three children were overdue from a nature trail hike and were not prepared for overnight conditions.
Forest Rangers Miller, McCartney, Murphy, and Scott searched multiple trails in the area and eventually found evidence that suggested the hikers had wandered off from the trail and followed old logging roads in the Fulton Chain Wild Forest.
Shortly before 1:00 a.m., search teams managed to locate the missing hikers.
Rangers worked with Webb Police who drove to within one-half mile of the group’s location and drove them back to the campground to reunite with their families.
A few days before, Forest Rangers rescued a separate group of four hikers, who had become lost near the Limekiln Lake Campground.
They were found about a half-mile away from the Limekiln Loop Trail. They were escorted back to the trailhead.
No injuries were reported for either incident.
