Western Fire Department Steuben Blaze September 2024

ONEIDA COUNTY- Emergency responders are now reporting that both a residential home and the garage next to it are a total loss in the wake of Tuesday’s fire in Steuben, NY.

It happened shortly before noontime at 8960 Dole Road, Oneida County 9-1-1 Emergency Dispatch reported.

Initial reports Tuesday suggested the blaze had sparked in the garage, but officials from Western Fire Department, the primary responder on-scene, confirmed that the fire had extended to the nearby residence.

Firefighters endured numerous factors while battling this blaze, including high winds that pushed flames towards the home.

Despite their best efforts, firefighters said Wednesday afternoon that the home and garage are both a total loss.

No injuries were reported, Western Fire Department said.

New York State Fire Office of Fire Prevention and Control has been requested to determine the Origin and Cause of the fire, which is currently under investigation.

Boonville, Floyd and Remsen Fire Departments all provided mutual aid.
