WEST TURIN- Local authorities investigated the scene of a snowmobile accident on Tug Hill Thursday evening that killed a man from near the Mohawk Valley area, officials are saying.

This latest development is an update to an original story we had earlier today.

It happened shortly before midnight on North Road in the town of West Turin, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigation so far has revealed that John P. Jones, 52, of Sauquoit, NY was riding his 2022 Ski-Doo sled in a southwesterly direction. Deputies determined that Jones went off the west side of the trail, overturned and then struck a tree.

There were several bystanders who rushed to his aid before arrival of emergency services. Despite CPR attempts, Jones was pronounced deceased on scene.

Members of Constableville and Martinsburg Fire Departments; Constableville Ambulance, Lewis County Search & Rescue, Turin Ridge Riders and Sullivan’s Towing all assisted.
