LEWIS COUNTY- Although there are no reported injuries from a Friday morning blaze that destroyed a home in the town of Watson, emergency responders have confirmed that two dogs perished in the fire.
This development is according to the Lowville Fire Department. They were the primary responder to a house fire, which occurred shortly after 10:30 a.m. at 6897 Olmstead Road.
Mutual Aid was requested from Croghan, Martinsburg and New Bremen Fire Departments.
When the first wave of firefighters arrived on scene, the home was fully engulfed by flames, according to Fire Chief Joe Austin.
Shortly after firefighters established the scene, homeowners Aaron and Carrie Widrick arrived and although no one else was home when the flames ignited, they did say their two dogs were inside.
Unfortunately, firefighters did locate two dogs that both perished in the blaze.
Despite their best efforts, the home is a total loss, as crews utilized a gradall to tear the structure down.
Despite the dogs, there were no other injuries reported. The American Red Cross has been contacted to assist the family.
Due to such extensive damage, Chief Austin says no fire cause could be identified.
Members from Lewis County Search and Rescue, National Grid, town of Watson and Lowville Fire Auxiliary all assisted.
