Forestport- Judith F. Hurley, 77, of O’Brien Road, and widow of Michael J.,passed away while surrounded by the loving care of her daughter and son in law, Shelly and John Privett and Hospice, on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.

Affectionately known as Judy, she was born in Utica, on July 18, 1947, a daughter of Dewitt and Ellen Spencer Wiley. For several years during her childhood, her father was employed by logging companies in the Adirondack region and Judy lived in various logging towns and camps throughout the north country, where she received her early education. Later her father retired from
logging and the family settled in Port Leyden, where she graduated from Port Leyden Central School, with the Class of 1965.

On November 26, 1973, Judy was united in marriage with Michael J. Hurley, at Hotel Doyle, in Forestport. Afterwards the couple lived in the Forestport area and Judy was employed at Connie’s General Store, before employment as a hostess at the Buffalo Head Restaurant, both in Forestport. Later she co-owned a pizza and sub shop in Forestport. Her last employment for ten years as a machine operator, at Sampo, Fishing Tackle Co. of Forestport. 

Judy was a longtime active member and director of the Forestport Firefighters Ladies Auxiliary. She greatly enjoyed caring for her pets, gardening and raising flowers and going to garage sales.

She is survived by a son, Jeffrey (Kim) Fazekas, Prospect, NY; daughter Shelly (John) Privett, Forestport; son Trevor (Sara) Hurley, Orlando, FL;

granddaughter, great granddaughter, two nieces Jennifer and Jessica and dear friend Ray Larkin. She was predeceased by her husband, Mike, who was a longtime active member of Forestport fire Fighters and employee of Sampo, who passed away on December 29, 2010. Later Judy relocated from her home on River St. in Forestport, to make her home with Shelly and John. She was also predeceased by her best friend, Donna Larkin.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, September 24, 2024, from 1-3 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., with a service at 3:00 P.M. also at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Beechwood Cemetery, Forestport. Memorial contributions may be made to the Forestport Fire Fighters, Inc., 11965 River Road, Forestport, NY 13338.
