Laura L. “Peg” Sawyer
Boonville- Laura L. “Peg” Sawyer, 90, of Walker Road, passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at Crouse Hospital, Syracuse.
Laura was born in Ilion, on December 9, 1934, a daughter of William Francis and Beatrice Coleman Lampman. She grew up in Weedsport, where she graduated from Weedsport Central School, with the Class of 1953. In 1957, Laura, graduated from Alfred University where she earned a Bachelor of Art Degree and Ceramic Design.
In 1957, Laura moved to Boonville, where she began her career as Art Teacher at Boonville Central School, retiring in 1991, from Adirondack Central School, Boonville. Mrs. Sawyer greatly enjoyed her years as an art teacher and was instrumental in guiding her students to realize their talents and develop skills in various facets of art.
On August 13, 1960, Laura was united in marriage with Bernard “Bern” O. Sawyer, at the Boonville United Methodist Church. Mr. Sawyer, a WWII Veteran, long time employee of Clark Lang Furniture Store, Boonville and talented musician, passed away on December 18, 1992.
Peg was an active in church and community organizations. She was a member of Boonville United Methodist Church and over the years she also attended Park Methodist Church, Prospect, NY, and the Unitarian-Universalist Church, in Barneveld. Mrs. Sawyer was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years, serving as Martha and Matron at Salma Chapter O.E.S. (Order of the Eastern Star), Boonville. Later Peg was an active member of Lake Delta-Mappa-Salma Chapter OES; at the present time she was an active member of Kayahoora Chapter 143 O.E.S. of Poland, NY. For many years Peg served on the board of Dodge Pratt & Northam Art and Community Center. Peg was also an over fifty year member of the Boonville Historical Club.
Peg and her husband, Bern both possessed a life interest in United States history, especially during the eras of The Revolutionary War and the Civil War.
She is survived by one son, William V. Sawyer, hamlet of Whitesboro; a granddaughter, Ainsley; one sister, Jeanne Baker, Weedsport and her family, Laurie Hadlick and a sister in law, Dolores “Dolly” O’Brien Remp and her family, Michelle, Rene and Ned.
Calling hours are Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 10:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M., when an Eastern Star Service will be held, followed by a Memorial Service, all at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, NY. Interment will follow at Boonville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to The Friends of Gettysburg Foundation, 1195 Baltimore Pike, Gettysburg, PA 17325, or to a local charity of your choice.
Contributions of food may be taken to the Boonville Methodist Church, Fellowship Hall, parking lot entrance, on Saturday, from 11:00 A.M. on.
