Body found in abandoned West Carthage garage prompts police response

JEFFERSON COUNTY- A body was discovered Tuesday evening in an abandoned West Carthage, NY garage, authorities say.

Emergency officials were called to 67 Champion Street at around 7:00 p.m. The area was blocked off with police tape.

Officials with the New York State Police told reporters on-scene from WWNY-TV that investigators are looking into the discovery of a body there.

An official autopsy will be performed to determine cause of death. Police clarified they do not believe that there is a risk to the community.

Bystanders witnessed authorities coming in and out of the garage, sometimes with evidence.
