LOWVILLE- Do you have any leftover or unwanted paint that you want to get rid of?
Well, for Lewis County residents, you will now have a monthly opportunity to do so during the spring, summer and fall seasons, thanks to a partnership between the county and ‘PaintCare,’ a non-profit recycling organization.
According to the Development Authority of the North Country, take back collections will commence each third Thursday of the month at the Lewis County Transfer Site (7952 State Route 26 Lowville, NY), starting April 17.
The goal, according to officials, is to provide more opportunities for folks to get rid of any unwanted paint outside the yearly household hazardous waste collection days.
On each third Thursday of the month, these take-back collections will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The following coatings will be accepted at these PaintCare events, in five-gallon containers or less:
- Interior and exterior latex, acrylic, water-based, alkyd, oil-based or enamel coatings
- Deck coatings and floor paints
- Primers, sealers, undercoaters
- Stains
- Shellacs, lacquers, varnishes, single-component urethanes.
- Waterproofing concrete/masonry/wood sealers and repellants (not tar or bitumen-based)
- Metal coatings, rust preventatives
- Field and lawn paints
Paints must be in their original, sealed container with their original labels.
These collections are for residents only. Businesses can reach out to PaintCare directly to arrange for a large-scale pickup of over 100 gallons.
